The MacLachlan tartan has two clear identities. Clan Modern features a red and blue base, with intersecting faint green lines, creating a subtle and stately look. Old Modern has a vivid red and green base, with yellow, black and white crossed lines, for a bold, contrasting look. Similarly to other tartans, its Ancient variations also offer different levels of tone and contrast. The tartan represents Clan MacLachlan, a Highland family from Argyll with Norse-Gaelic roots.
