Hand-stitched kilts are, as the name suggests, stitched by hand. Each pleat at the back is sewn on meticulously by one of our skilled traditional kiltmakers and creates a gorgeous flow. Hand-stitched kilts allow for more natural shaping between the waist to hip. It also allows ease of adjusting them in the future as well as creating more movement in the material.

Machine-stitched kilts are solely machine formed. This means that each stitch is created in beautiful uniformity. A machine kilt is stiffer than a hand-stitched kilt, and sits tighter across the hips. This kilt only allows for strap alteration in the future.

Hybrid kilts are a combination of the two. The pleats are machine sewn in from behind which ensures the stitching is not visible. Everything else is completed by hand. This then creates the best of both worlds as you get the neatness as well as the beauty of movement. A hybrid kilt can be adjusted by adding additional fabric into the fringing on front and under apron.
